Two Dimensional Design

Question#1: What relationships between substance and space have you built into your design? What would happen if you substantially increased or decreased the amount of space? For example, would 70 percent space and 30 percent mass strengthen or weaken your design? How can space play a stronger role in your design?
The design I have created contains a good balance between substance and space. Just like its form, shape, theme, and color, space and substance seem to be playing an integral role and are related to one another. For example, if there is no space, then the substance will not look good and I may have to recreate the design. It is not good to substantially increase or decrease the amount of space as this can impact the overall look of the design. We should bear in mind that all designs or artworks have their own space, and if the amount of space is increased or decreased, then the audience may not get the actual message of the artist. So, it is important for me to keep the original amount of space maintained in this particular design. 70 percent space and 30 percent mass will weaken my design as a proportion or balance is what I need to focus on. Space is a fundamental artistic element which will play a good role in my design. However, I would like to keep a balance between space and mass, as increasing space too much might impact the overall look of my composition. In the given space, I would like to fill different colors such as orange, violet, green, yellow, red and others.
Question#2: How many textures can be created with the material you are using? What happens when a surface gradually shifts from a polished, smooth texture to a very rough texture? Can contradictory texture enhance or expand the idea you want to convey?
The texture is the look and feel of canvas. It is purely base on the paint and is created using materials like lace, wood, metal, sand and ribbon. In my design, I have used only a couple of materials, so two textures can be created: actual texture and simulated texture. If a surface gradually shifts from a polished, smooth texture to a very rough texture, then it will need to be worked on because rough surfaces do not look as impressive as smooth and polished surfaces. I want to convey a good message, so a contradictory texture will not enhance the idea. I like simulated texture the most because it allows me to create great visual effects.
