The United
States experienced a horrifying attack on September 11, 2001 that remains to be
the deadliest in its history. President George W. Bush in this moment of pain
delivered a speech meant to console Americans and update them on what he
intended to do. His speech remains relevant today in the fight against
terrorism.
His speech is
sympathetic as it starts by acknowledging the suffering of Americans and
recognizing the collective effort of Americans in comforting each other. He assures them of justice when he says their
anger may have been as a result of grief but it is the reason for their
resolution which is to seek justice.
If al Qaeda had
been closely monitored after its previous attacks against America then probably
the September 11 attack would have been prevented. From the speech one can tell
that America is well equipped to fight terrorism. It is so unfortunate that it
is only after the attack that America is now ready to maximize on its
resources.
There isan assurance
of safety. The president promises to use every resource
at his command to fight and eliminate terrorists.America is willing to make new
enemies to ensure its safety. This is evident when he says either a nation is
with America or with the terrorists. These statements point to a promise of a
safe America.
It is evident
that the president takes seriously the security of his people. He surrounds
himself with allies whom he trusts to ensure that his effortsare successful and
how the congress applauds means he made the right choice. America can now put
its trust in the words of its leader and hope for a peaceful future.
