Step 1: Defining the Decision
This
involves making decisions on what is to be done and what not to do to ensure
the success of the organization. It involves defining the constraints and
essential requirements for the determination of an appropriate decision. In
this case, Perfect Perm Oil (PPO) is expected to make firm and relevant
decisions which would ensure that the company remains in the market despite the
major challenges faced. The decisions should focus on achieving the goals
established by the Consumer’s Against Palm Oil (CAPO) which focuses on
environmental sustainability as influenced by palm oil production("Sustainable Palm Oil," 2015).
This would involve finding alternatives for palm oil production that meets the
needs and interests of PPO’s concerns.
Step 2: Framing the Decision
This
involves defining the purpose, scope, and perspective of the decisions made to
ensure the success of the company. The purpose of the decision made in the PPO
is to meet the demand of the CAPO which involve addressing environmental
concerns while still ensuring that the company remains relevant in the market.
The scope of the decision-making process addressed herein is to ensure that the
company addresses issues on solving the threats arising from CAPO with
reference to environmental conservation and concerns over human life and safety("Sustainable Palm Oil," 2015).
The perspective involves addressing the issue of concern with an
environmentalist perspective of the CAPO and the concerns of the POO’s
customers. The company needs to take care of the environment as they strain to
satisfy customer’s needs.
Step 3: Building the Decision
The
decisions build aims at creating values that ensure the company remains in the
market and profitable despite prevailing challenges. Business objectives and
values need to remain environmentally friendly to satisfy the needs of the CAPO
and PPO customers. This would be archived through the collection of data and
relevant information which is analyzed to find alternatives which can manage to
accomplish the set goals and objectives of the company. Building the
organizational decision involves bringing all parties together to ensure all
their concerns are addressed appropriately without diverting from the
organizational goals and objectives.
Step 4A: Decision Matrix to Evaluate
the Alternatives
This
involves examination and comparing alternatives to determine which alternative
meets the goal of the PPO Company. Decision matrix 1 involve examining
alternatives before they are narrowed down to the best and most recommendable
one. The framing of the decision matrix is achieved by considering PPO’s
purpose, scope, and perspective which involve assigning a value for each
alternative. The alternative with the highest value is considered best for
implementation as is will meet the need for the company without compromising
environmental sustainability.
Step 4B: Evaluation Discussion of
Alternatives
The
proposed best decision by the PPO company is the establishment of sustainable
production of oil palm as the best alternative. This will ensure that the
company meets the need of the customers while taking care of the environment as
required by the CAPO (Environmental
Science Case Study, 2017). This decision would ensure that the company
remains in the market and profitable within a sustainable environment. The
establishment of the decision matrix enables the selection of the best
alternative from the presented possible alternatives.
Step5: Effectiveness of the
Decision Process
Utilization
of Management Development Questionnaire (MDQ) model in the development of
decision matrix enabled consideration of alternatives and objectives which
would enable the company to become more sustainable in palm oil production for the
satisfaction of the CAPO and PPO customers. The managerial team ensured making
of ethical and moral decisions which would help in developing a more
eco-friendly environment for the PPO company. The appropriateness of the
decision matrix is in deciding the best alternative and redefining the
objectives of the and satisfy consumer’s needs.
