Self-Evaluation

Introduction
Self-evaluation is an essential process for a student willing to improve his/her performance in class. It mainly involves a moment of analyzing the rate of improvement in writing and progressive advancement in general academic performance. As I analyze my own work, I ask myself “what have I learned this semester new from what I had the previous semester?” and what I need to do to improve my performance in the areas that I realize am not doing well. The major focus has been on ensuring improvement in my writing skills especially in the presentation of different types of academic and non-academic essays. I, therefore, address issues that describe my progressive learning in essay writing throughout this paper including essay formatting, research work and citing.
For instance, I have learned that the best procedure for writing an essay involvesthe introduction, process, and conclusion. The introduction involves introducing the topic or idea that one wishes to communicate to the reader or audience. It, therefore, starts with the identification of the audience and then section of the topic of discussion. The main ideas are highlighted in the introduction of an essay. In the process part of the essay, the student is expected to elaborate the introduced topic into details such that they can be of meaning to the reader(Your Dictionary, 2016). The process paragraphs include the introduction of the topic sentence, illustration of the topic, supporting information and provision of examples. The topic sentences are presented in the order of their superiority in meaning or in a chronological way. The points are thereafter highlighted in the conclusion as the writer draws the conclusion and provide relevant recommendations.
Another important aspect of writing skills that I have managed to develop is conducting research and referencing the information obtained from external sources. The method I have specialized in is MLA citation and referencing method that provides a clear understanding of research work. In MLA, the in-text citation includes the author’s name and year of publishing of the research material, for example, Author, 2016 ("How to Cite Sources in MLA Citation FormatMendeley", 2018). The reference includes author, year, the title of the material, and city of publishing. One may also provide a link where the information is obtained from. Citations are essential in improving the research work of a student and enhancing his/her academic knowledge.
Despite the great improvement I have managed to achieve in essay writing, I have also realized that I have major challenges in grammar and choice of words in sentence construction. With this, I find that most of my sentences are weak and difficult to understand. I also have few vocabularies which create the base of essay writing. I, therefore, intend to improve in these fields through reading more materials and novels which ensure the enhancement of these sectors. I also intend to practice more on essay writing with the help of teachers and colleagues who are experts in essay writing and willing to help.
Conclusion
Throughout my learning process, I have developed an interest in improving my skills in essay writing. I have therefore taken time to learn more in the class and through studies on how to write good essays. the process has been fruitful with understanding the major parts of an essay which include an introduction, process, and conclusion. Citation and referencing of the research work have also been my major achievement which indicates improvement in my research work. I have also managed to learn my weaknesses in essay writing which include grammar and choice of word and understanding the appropriate approach to improve them.
