Augustine spent his entire life in a town
where people were turning to Christianity in a large number. How do we find the
meaning of life? He stresses the relationship of an individual to God and thinks
that a person can never identify himself if he does not do anything to
strengthen his relationship with Almighty God. Augustine confesses that he
became a Christian when the Spirit of God moved in his heart. With time, he
started paying more attention to things around him and closely observed the
rules of nature, recognizing that there is no hope but Jesus Christ. If a
person forgets Him, he will never be able to achieve success in all walks of
life. So, the relationship of a person with Jesus Christ helps him find the
meaning of life.
Augustine’s adherence to the church is
another important thing to pay attention to. He used to go to the church for
prayers, and just like all other Christians, Augustine had a personal faith
that human beings are dependent on Almighty for their life and death and that
there is a set time for everything. He also urges the readers to look at the
stars, planets and other things around. Christians are not usually allowed to
leave the church during prayer, meaning they are to forget the materialistic
things and bow before Almighty by the whole. Augustine further argues that
there is a big difference between the believer and non-believer. A believer is
someone who trusts the existence of God, and a non-believer is someone who remains
in doubt all the time. Nobody can say why God made the world or Satan who
rebelled against Him.
As a believer himself, Augustine states that
God exists in everything and every form. From the wheat and rice that grow in
their particular seasons to the goats and sheep we see around, everything is
Jesus Christ’s property, and we will have to turn to him on the Doomsday.
Moving on, Augustine teaches everyone to be polite, humble and kind and asks
his followers to not commit sins since they are disliked by God, and one can
never save himself from punishment if he has a negative mind. Those who met
Jesus Christ learned that the only way to survive is to trust him blindly and stop
depending on others due to their qualities, power, inheritance, and attraction.
In simple words, Augustine encourages people
to rely on Jesus Christ for all of their matters and problems since no one can
provide as effective solutions to the problems as Jesus themselves. Augustine
also states that the church is the holiest place in this world and that it is
like the Word of God. If someone wants to find the truths of life or nature, he
should turn to the church, seek the mercy of Jesus Christ and increase his
dependence on them. If he suffers in some part of his life, he should not feel
bad but bow before God and wait for the good days.
In conclusion, the more a person connects to
Jesus Christ, the higher are his chances of identifying the meaning of life and
achieving success in all fields. The Bible has a lot to learn from, and it is
the book Augustine draws our attention to in order to seek the love of God and
to find the meaning and purpose of life.
