the roles of a nurse practitioner in a multidisciplinary team and understand
the roles, skills, and values of all team members.
A multidisciplinary team is a group of
healthcare experts (surgeons, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and
others) who have different specializations but work together to accomplish
certain health-related tasks. Their core responsibility is to provide quality
services to patients of all age groups (Housley, 2017). While working with the
members of a multidisciplinary team, the first role a nurse practitioner has to
play is that she should act politely and humbly. There is no room for arrogance
or rudeness, and the nurse practitioner should be ready to act upon the advice
of her seniors, as they are there to help her improve with time. In addition,
the nurse practitioner will be required to serve multiple patients at a time,
and this is possible only if she is competitive enough to take risks and to face
challenges. As far as the roles, skills, and values of other team members are
concerned, I think that everyone should show sincerity and honesty to the work.
For example, psychiatrists, who are a part of the interdisciplinary team,
should provide consoling services to their clients regularly. Similarly, if a
doctor is tasked to operate two to three patients per day, then it becomes
their responsibility to complete the job on time. Just like the nurse
practitioner, all members of the interdisciplinary team are valuable assets of
the hospital. Every single person, whether he is a ward boy, a surgeon or a
junior nurse, has to work hard during working hours and must provide patients
with quality care. This is the only way the hospital can generate more revenues,
and more and more patients can recover from illnesses at a fast speed.

Interprofessional collaboration, also known
as IPC, is the latest phrase used by nurses and doctors (Deleon, 2015). In this
type of collaboration, different healthcare experts belonging to varying
backgrounds and having multiple specializations work closely with patients,
their family members, and caregivers in order to ensure the delivery of quality
care. As far as the importance of inter-professional collaboration is
concerned, Jennifer R. Madden agrees that medical errors can be avoided if
doctors, nurses and other staff members agree to work together and dedicate
themselves to the wellbeing and health of patients (Madden, 2017).
Historically, a large number of patient errors in American hospitals have come
to our notice, which ranges from delayed treatment to the provision of
low-quality medications. In addition, poor communication and fatal compromises
have remained the topic of debate all over the world. All of these issues can
be resolved if medical experts are ready to build and strengthen an
inter-professional relationship. The stakeholders are psychiatrists, surgeons,
nurses, ward boys, and other staff members, all of whom should work toward a
common goal. If any of these individuals does not perform his duties
effectively and with honesty, then the overall healthcare system may get
impacted. The benefits of an inter-professional collaboration are given to
people with chronic diseases and their family members. For patients, it is
beneficial because doctors and nurses would be ready to do anything which deems
to be possible for them in order to ensure their health and fast recovery from
the illness. While healthcare experts who exercise inter-professional
collaboration skills are well-intentioned, the word of caution is that they
should recognize their responsibilities and should keep personal issues aside
while working in the hospital.
